Tham & Videgård

Biography

Tham & Videgård are based in Stockholm, Sweden, and directed by co-founders and lead architects Bolle Tham (b.1970) and Martin Videgård (b.1968). Since the start in 1999 the practice has attracted attention for its many innovative built works developed with inspiration from the specifics of each site. Tham & Videgård's projects have won several national and international awards and twice the Kasper Salin Prize in 2008 and 2015 for best new architecture in Sweden.

Major works include the new KTH School of Architecture for the Royal Institute of Technology, the Kalmar Museum of Art, the Moderna Museet Malmö (for the Swedish Museum of Modern Art), the Stenhöga Office complex, Västra Kajen housing in Jönköping, the Uppsala Department store, several private homes such as the Archipelago house and the Creek House. Tham & Videgård always follow the project through and into detail which have resulted also in many interior projects such as the Alma Creative Club in Stockholm (awarded Best new interior Architecture in Sweden 2017), the Apartment Humlegården and the worldwide flagship stores concept for Volvo Cars.

Tham & Videgård has also gained opportunities to work abroad, currently with ongoing projects in Paris, Prague and Spain, and is regularly invited to participate in international exhibitions such as the Venice Architecture Biennales, The Chicago Architecture Biennial, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London UK and at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark. In 2022 the Swedish Museum of Architecture, ArkDes, will present the first comprehensive mid-career retrospective on Tham & Videgård's work.

Bolle Tham and Martin Videgård are members of the Royal Academy of Arts and regularly teach and lecture at schools of architecture in Sweden and abroad. In 2014-2015 they were invited guest professors at the PBSA Peter Behrens School of Architecture in Düsseldorf, Germany. Tham & Videgård has lectured at the ETH Zürich (CH), the Pavillion de l’Arsenal, Paris (FR), at the Architectural Association (AA) School of Architecture, London (UK), at the Royal Academy of Arts, London (UK), at the Netherlands Architecture Institute, Rotterdam (NL), at the Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD) in Cambridge and at the IIT, the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago (USA), and many other venues.
