w164 Alto

2016.04.18

Wästberg introduces w164 Alto, a high-tech uplighter developed in colla- boration with German designer Dirk Winkel. w164 Alto will be presented for the first time during Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair 9-13 February.

w164 Alto is a new type of uplighter.

The pole houses a sophisticated 10.000 lumen, multidirectional, LED tech- nique, giving a very even and super-wide-angle light distribution. The top disc of the base is a large dimming wheel which also includes the switch.

The off-centre, lateral constellation of the cylindrical units brings to mind a brutalist, deconstructionist view on architecture. Alto shares these values to become the definition of the attitude behind the concept.

Wästberg

Wästberg launched its premier collection in 2008 and although this newco- mer appears to have come out of nowhere – nothing could be further from the truth. Its founder, Magnus Wästberg, was born into the lighting trade and had through experience gained an understanding for the need to fuse aesthetic sensibility with Swedish engineering mentality.

Today Wästberg has a growing catalogue developed in close collaboration with some of the World’s most renowned architects and designers. Inclu- ding David Chipperfield, Claesson Koivisto Rune, Ilse Crawford, James Irvine, Jonas Lindvall, Jean-Marie Massaud, Nendo, Inga Sempé, Maarten Van Severen, Sam Hecht & Kim Colin and Dirk Winkel. Only with designers like them could Wästberg’s ideas be turned into successful products.

The lamps have been honoured with more than 50 Awards and nominations for design excellence, including Good Design Awards, Reddot Awards, De- sign Award of the Federal Republic of Germany, Wallpaper* Design Award, the Swedish Design Awards “ Design S ”, “ Guldägget ”, Elle Interiör De- sign Award, FORM +1 Award and London Design Museum’s “ Designs of the Year ” Award.
