Industrial Facility

2018.04.26

Wästberg’s CEO and Founder Magnus Wästberg is interviewed in the new book ”Industrial Facility”, which is the first monograph documenting the complete works of world-renowned design office, Industrial Facility, and its founders Sam Hecht and Kim Colin. This beautifully designed tome is a fascinating exploration into Hecht’s and Colin’s inspiring portfolio and sheds light on their growth from a respected cult-following to one of the most influential and progressive studios of industrial design.

Since establishing their office in 2002, Hecht and Colin have become a formidable team, working with a host of high-profile clients and winning more than fifty international awards. Whether they’re creating robotically-produced wooden chairs for Mattiazzi, anonymous products for Muji, office environments for Herman Miller or electronics for Hitachi, they are highly regarded for both their philosophical and practical approach.

This stunning book features a foreword by Alain de Botton and is interspersed with candid conversations by key collaborators and curators, including Bruce Mau, Naoto Fukasawa, Deyan Sudjic and Magnus Wästberg while an illustrated essay by Peter Kapos delves deeper into the studio’s philosophy.

The book concludes with a catalogue raisonné, showcasing more than 200 projects charting the scale and evolution of the studio’s designs, from the diminutive to the architectural, spotlighting collaborations with respected brands and institutions such as Emeco, Issey Miyake, Louis Vuitton and Wästberg, among many others.
