Berlin Apartment

Private Hufelandstraße

Reclaiming a former factory’s openness: an apartment defined by scale and space, not walls.

The sense of generous scale and openness were entirely lost. What had once been a factory was converted into a two-room flat by adding several dividing walls. To restore the character of the space, almost all the interior walls were removed. The space is now broken up by two separate, freestanding cubes. The cubes provide storage space and an interior isolated from the room, and contribute various functions to the adjacent exterior surfaces. Natural materials in light shades create a clean, relaxed feel. The transformation of the space mirrors Wastberg+’s overall philosophy: going back to our origins. In other words, reestablishing people’s healthy connection to and reliance on light.
